Diaphragm Coupling Structure and Operation Characteristics

1. The diaphragm coupling consists of at least one diaphragm and two bushes. The diaphragm is fastened on the sleeve by pins and will not loosen or may cause backlash between the diaphragm and the sleeve. Some manufacturers supply two diaphragms, others supply three diaphragms, where there is one or two rigid components unilaterally connected to the sleeve.

2. Diaphragm couplings are somewhat like bellows couplings. Theoretical cam couplings transmit Torque in the same way. The diaphragm itself is very thin, because it is difficult to bend relative to the displacement load when it occurs, so it can withstand up to 15 degrees of the right direction, and at the same time, lower bearing load in the servo system.

3. The diaphragm coupling is the longest used in servo system. The diaphragm possesses very good Torque rigidity, but is slightly inferior to the bellows coupling.

4. On the other hand, the diaphragm coupling is very delicate, and it will be very difficult to destroy if it is misused or not disassembled accurately. It is often necessary to ensure that errors occur precisely within the bearing range of the normal operation of the coupling.

5. According to the type of axle diameter placement: the initial size of bearing coupling connection, i.e. the diameter D of axle hole and the length L of axle hole, should meet the requirements of the diameter of main and driven end, otherwise, the Size of the coupling should be installed according to the diameter D of axle. It is a normal phenomenon that the axle diameters of the main and driven ends are different. When the torque and speed are the same and the axle diameters of the main and driven ends are different, the type of coupling should be selected according to the large axle diameters. In the newly designed transmission system, seven types of shaft pass should be selected to meet the requirements of GBT3852. J1 type of shaft pass should be recommended to improve the versatility and interchangeability. The length of shaft hole should be in accordance with the requirements of I bearing coupling qualification standard.

Scope of application:

Diaphragm couplings are widely used in shafting transmission of machines of different types, such as water pumps (especially high-power, chemical pumps), fans, compressors, hydraulic equipment, petroleum equipment, printing equipment, textile equipment, chemical equipment, mining equipment, metallurgical equipment, navigation (helicopter), high-speed power transmission of naval vessels. System, steam engine, piston power equipment transmission system, tracked vehicle, and high-speed and high-power equipment transmission system of lifting energy equipment group have been widely used in high-speed transmission shafting after dynamic balance.

Compared with the gear coupling, the diaphragm coupling has no relative sliding, no need of lubrication, sealing, no noise, no need of maintenance, and is easy to manufacture. It can partly replace the gear coupling. Diaphragm couplings have been widely used in industrial developed countries in the world. In practical applications, the middle axis type is generally used to improve the offset compensation performance of the two axes.
